Apterostigma

Apterostigma are monomorphic fungus-growers. The genus was revised by Lattke (1997) recently. Definition of measurements are given at the end of this page.

Apterostigma JHB01 Bihn ms.

Measurements:
HL0.86-0.89, HW 0.65-0.68, CI 74-76, SL 0.76-0.78, SI 116-120, WL 1.24-1.34 (n=3)

Identification:
Mandibles with 9 teeth; mesonotum and dorsal face of propodeum with a pair of longitudinal carinae; metanotum with a pair of short, faint carinae; these are not visible as lobes in lateral view; ventral border of mesopleuron with well developed carina; ventral border of subpetiolar process straight to slightly concave; petiolar peduncle without ventral denticle.

Apterostigma JHB02 Bihn ms.

Measurements:
HL0.93-1.02, HW 0.68-0.75, CI 70-74, SL 0.86-0.98, SI 125-138, WL 1.31-1.55 (n=5)

Identification:
Mandibles with 11-14 teeth; mesonotum and dorsal face of propodeum without carinae; ventral border of postpetiolar process concave.
The examined specimens show quite some variability in pilosity (especially of gaster and scapes) and measurments.

Apterostigma JHB03 Bihn ms.

Measurements:
HL 0.96, HW 0.68, CI 71, SL 0.89, SI 130, WL 1.48 (n=1)

Identification:
Mandibles with 10 teeth; posterior margin of head posterior to eyes semihexagonal with a central depression; mesonotum and dorsal face of propodeum with a pair of longitudinal carinae; metanotum without longitudinal carinae; ventral border of mesopleuron with weakly developed carina; ventral border of postpetiolar process straight to weekly concave; peduncle of petiolus ventrally with small denticle; cuticula on dorsum of first gastral tergite rugose.

Definintion of Measurements

Head length (HL): maximum longitudinal length from the anteriormost portion of the clypeus to the midpoint of a line drawn across the posterior margin of the head from its highest points.

Head width (HW): maximum head width, excluding eyes.

Cephalic Index (CI): HW/HL*100.

Scape length (SL): scape length, not including basal constriction and condyle.

Scape Index (SI): HW/SL*100.

Mesosoma Length (WL): The length of the mesosoma from the anterior most point of the mesosoma (including the cervical carina, sensu Lattke 1997) to the posteriormost point of the metapleuron.
